Thank you for visiting mdta.maryland.gov and baybridge.com. These websites are published and managed by the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA). Please read the following privacy statement to understand how your personal information is collected and used.

Information Collected

The MDTA gathers only the information necessary to serve you. The MDTA collects certain information from its websites in order to make them more useful to visitors; inform visitors of offers, programs, events and activities; and to consider ways on how to improve the agency and its facilities.

The websites may collect and store certain information about your visit automatically. This information is not personally identifiable and includes the visitor's operating system, browser, domain name and the specific websites that a visitor may access. This information is used to improve the websites.

The MDTA limits access to information collected from its websites to those staff members who require the information to carry out their business functions and to other transportation business units within the Maryland Department of Transportation. Staff members are educated about practices and policies to safeguard that information, and those policies are enforced carefully. In addition, information is collected only from visitors who voluntarily provide it. Visitors may decline the use of their personally identifiable information.

The MDTA has no intention of collecting personally identifiable information from children, including names, addresses, telephone numbers or email addresses. Children are asked not to submit such information. If a child has provided the MDTA with personally identifiable information, the child's parent should request the removal of the child's information from existing files.

Security

The MDTA is committed to safeguarding your privacy online. The MDTA makes all reasonable efforts to maintain information collected from its websites accurately and securely. Therefore, the MDTA employs applicable technologies designed to aid in the accuracy and security of collected information. Personal information is disclosed only as required by the Maryland Public Information Act or as necessary and permissible to carry out official duties. In addition, Maryland law restricts State agencies from creating personal records unless certain information is required for a specific purpose, such as the investigation of a possible violation of the law. State officials who request personal data from citizens must notify the citizens regarding:

  • the purpose for which the information is collected,
  • the consequences to the citizen for refusing to provide the personal information,
  • the citizen's right to inspect and correct personal records,
  • whether the information is available for public inspection, and
  • whether the information is made available to other entities.

The MDTA also is committed to ensuring that you can conduct online business with the State securely and confidently. Therefore, your online transactions and personal financial information is protected with appropriate security safeguards. Personal information transmissions, including payment information, will be encrypted by SSL technology.

In addition, third parties that support the MDTA must agree to safeguard personal information in the same manner. Only third parties that require information collected from the websites in order to support the MDTA are provided with such information.

The MDTA does not rent, sell or exchange information submitted to its websites, and use of such information is restricted to official agency business, research and marketing purposes.

Cookies

The MDTA may store some information on a visitor's computer in the form of a "cookie" or similar file. These files allow the MDTA to tailor its websites to reflect the visitors listed or historical preferences. Most Internet browsers notify a visitor when a cookie or similar file is stored and allows the visitor to erase or block such files, according to the browser's instructions. In addition, the websites use "temporary cookies" to track user navigation in order to make the portal experience more useful. A temporary cookie is erased when the visitor closes the Internet browser.

If you send the MDTA an email, the information may be used to respond to your inquiry. Email correspondence, like mailed correspondence, may become a public record. As a public record, your correspondence could be disclosed to other parties upon request, in accordance with Maryland's Public Information Act.

If you have provided your email address and wish to remove it from the MDTA's mailing lists, please send a message to mdta@mdta.maryland.gov and the MDTA will make reasonable efforts to delete your email from existing files.
