MDTA POLICE HONOR TOP COPS
Baltimore City Resident Named Officer of the Year

BALTIMORE, MD - Transportation Secretary and Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Chairman Pete K. Rahn joined MDTA Executive Director Milt Chaffee and MDTA Police Chief Col. Woodrow W. Jones yesterday to honor sworn and civilian members of the MDTA Police who distinguished themselves in 2015.

"These public servants ought to be lauded as they risk their lives every day to protect Maryland's citizens and visitors using our bridges, tunnels, highways, ports and airports," said Secretary Rahn.

Officer Renato Guarnaccia was named the MDTA Police Officer of the Year for 2015. A Baltimore City resident and nine-year member of the force, Officer Guarnaccia began his career as an MDTA Police Cadet and graduated from the MDTA Police Training Academy in 2010.

Officer Guarnaccia received the award for his overall performance during 2015. He had several notable criminal arrests, including arrests for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin and the recovery of a stolen vehicle where the vehicle identification numbers had been replaced. Officer Guarnaccia also arrested a subject for a significant theft of copper wire from a construction site, seized 782 cartons of untaxed cigarettes and arrested and charged two suspects with firearms charges after a shooting.

"The MDTA Police represent honesty, integrity, dignity and dedication, and last night, we honored our finest," said Colonel Jones. "I am proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with the men and women who protect and serve Maryland families as they travel our great state every day."

In addition to naming the 2015 Officer of the Year, the MDTA Police presented officers and civilians with more than 100 awards, including Awards of Excellence, Lifesaving Awards, Top DUI Enforcement, Motor Carrier Inspector of the Year, Dispatcher of the Year and Chief's Commendations, among others.
