MDTA POLICE TO CONDUCT

DUI SATURATION PATROLS

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

BALTIMORE, MD - On July 4, Americans will celebrate Independence Day and the freedoms enjoyed by the citizens of this country. The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police would like to remind motorists to make a plan for a sober way home so that these celebrations don’t end in disaster.

The MDTA Police are joining the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign during the Fourth of July holiday week. Motorists will see augmented enforcement on the roads with zero tolerance for those who drive impaired. These saturation patrols will target not only those driving under the influence of alcohol, but also individuals driving a vehicle while impaired by illegal drugs.

During the 2017 holiday, 237 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes, accounting for 39 percent of traffic deaths during the holiday period. Making the choice to drive drunk puts everyone in danger, including yourself. Even one drink can be one too many.

“We cannot stress enough how important it is to avoid drinking and driving,” said MDTA Police Chief Colonel Jerry Jones. “There is no excuse for driving impaired with the advent of ride share services and the availability of public transportation. Please plan ahead so you arrive at your destination safely.”

The MDTA Police support the MHSO Toward Zero Deaths campaign – a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland roadways. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com
