Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the week of March 30 – April 5, 2025

All work will be performed weather permitting. The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals. Headlights are required at all times on the bridge. Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes and other work variables

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Thursday and Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work. The nighttime closures feature deck removal and replacement for the eastbound bridge deck replacement project. Temporary concrete connection slabs are utilized for this crucial work, allowing for travel lanes to reopen each morning and for a smoother driving transition across work areas. Learn more here. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work.

Note: Lane closures may start earlier if traffic volumes allow. Motorists advised to call 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) for 24/7 bridge conditions.

Tolling Reminder:  All-electronic tolling is statewide in Maryland. Standard Video Toll rates apply for any trips not paid with a valid E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate account at toll facilities. Enroll in E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate at DriveEzMD.com.

Serious About Safety: State Highway Administration's Commitment to Safer Roads

This month’s Serious About Safety message comes from State Highway Administrator (SHA) Will Pines, who highlights SHA’s continued commitment to building a strong safety culture and supporting MDOT’s overall safety mission. As we move through the summer travel season, roads across Maryland are busier than usual, making it especially important to stay alert, plan ahead, and make safe choices behind the wheel.

Potomac Waterway

July is Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month, a reminder that anyone can find themselves stopped along the side of the road unexpectedly, whether due to a disabled vehicle, a crash, emergency responders, or maintenance crews. In these situations, drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert, and move over when it is safe to do so. Learn more about Maryland’s Move Over Law, roadside safety, and real-time traffic updates through SHA’s CHART (Coordinated Highways Action Response Team) and MDTA's Bay Bridge website.
