Bay Bridge (US 50/301)

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of August 14 – 20, 2022

All work will be performed weather permitting. The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals. Headlights are required at all times on the bridge. Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closure.

The westbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work. Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span during the full westbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work.

Note: Lane closures may start earlier if traffic volumes allow. Motorists advised to call 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) for 24/7 bridge conditions.

NOTE: MDOT SHA is partnering with the western shore community in Anne Arundel County on a short-term pilot operation to collect traffic data on the Oceanic Drive ramp to eastbound US 50 between August 11-14. Expect a temporary signal to manage traffic flow onto US 50. Learn more here.

Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge on weekends include:

  • Friday – before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
  • Saturday – before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  • Sunday – before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

Tolling Reminder:  All-electronic tolling is statewide in Maryland. Standard Video Toll rates apply for any trips not paid with a valid E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate account at toll facilities. E-ZPass remains the most cost-effective way to travel toll roads in Maryland, saving drivers up to 77% versus the higher rates and additional paperwork that come with Video Tolls. Always properly mount your E-ZPass transponder and be sure your vehicles and billing information are up to date to receive the lowest toll rate for your account. Enroll in E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate at DriveEzMD.com.
