MDTA POLICE TO TARGET

AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS

Slow Down and Stay Alert So No One Gets Hurt!

BALTIMORE, MD – On July 11, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will continue to enhance highway safety by targeting aggressive drivers in construction zones.

During this high-visibility enforcement effort, officers will be on the lookout for motorists who tailgate, speed and run red lights – driving behaviors that often lead to crashes. The MDTA Police’s goal is to reduce the number of crashes caused by aggressive driving. According to the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO), an average of 41 fatalities and 251 serious injuries occur each year in crashes involving aggressive drivers.

MDTA Police officers also will be educating motorists about aggressive driving. Ending aggressive driving begins with motorists allowing enough time to reach their destinations so they can follow the posted speed limits, not resort to tailgating and not drive when they’re angry, upset or tired.

The MDTA Police support the MHSO Toward Zero Deaths campaign – a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland’s roadway. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com

The MDTA Police remind you to “Move Over or Slow Down” for emergency vehicles and tow trucks that are stopped on a highway with visual signals.
