MDTA POLICE STEPPING UP IMPAIRED DRIVING

ENFORCEMENT ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

#makeaplan

BALTIMORE, MD – On Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will be conducting high-visibility impaired driving enforcement throughout all MDTA facilities.

“We want football fans to enjoy themselves during the big game; however, those celebrations should never lead to drinking and driving,” said MDTA Police Chief Colonel Jerry Jones.  “If motorists see someone who appears to be driving while impaired, we ask that they call 911 immediately.”

Just as the two Super Bowl teams make a game plan, fans should take the time to do the same prior to Sunday’s celebrations:

  1. Chose a designated driver
  2. Call a taxi or ride share service
  3. Take public transportation

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 10,497 fatalities occurred in motor-vehicle crashes in the United States involved drunk drivers. Among those 10,497 alcohol impaired fatalities, 67 percent were in crashes in which at least one driver had a blood alcohol concentration of .15.

The MDTA Police supports the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO) Toward Zero Deaths campaign – a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland roadways. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com.
