MDTA POLICE RECOVER TWO LOADED GUNS
DURING TRAFFIC STOP IN
BALTIMORE CITY
BALTIMORE, MD - On Monday, July 31, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police arrested two individuals from Baltimore who were in possession of two loaded handguns.
An MDTA Police officer stopped 21-year-old Deion Erick Jenkins in Baltimore City at the intersection of Hanover Street and Cromwell Street for an equipment violation on a 2013 Nissan Sentra. As the MDTA officers attempted to conduct a subsequent probable cause search, the front-seat passenger, 21-year-old Antonio Rashad Green, jumped out of the vehicle, shoved an MDTA officer and fled on foot.
During a search of the vehicle, MDTA Police recovered two loaded 9 mm handguns and ammunition. Jenkins and the rear-seat passenger, 23-year-old Norman Lyrue Young, Jr were taken into custody without incident. A search of the area to apprehend Green was unsuccessful.
During the follow-up investigation, it was determined that Green stole a 2005 Ford Escape from the 300 block of East Cromwell Street. A warrant has been issued for Green's arrest. Anyone with information on Green's whereabouts is asked to contact the MDTA Police Detectives Unit at 410-537-6700.
The MDTA Police charged both Jenkins and Young with possession of a firearm. Young was charged separately with possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony, possessing ammunition when prohibited from possessing a firearm and for transporting a handgun on their person.
After processing, officers transported Jenkins and Young to the Baltimore Central Booking Intake Facility for an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Jenkins and Young are being held without bail.
