MDTA POLICE ANNOUNCE ARREST FOLLOWING

ASSAULT WITH FIREARM ON I-895 IN BALTIMORE

Subject Faces Weapons and Assault Charges

BALTIMORE, Md. (July 30, 2024) – Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police Officers arrested an Anne Arundel County man this morning following an assault with a firearm that occurred in June on I-895 in Baltimore City.

During the investigation, MDTA Police Officers assigned to the Central Command Detachment and the Criminal Investigations Unit learned that the driver of a red Ford SUV pointed a handgun at another driver on southbound I-895 near Potee Street (Exit 7) at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18.

Investigators identified 33-year-old Caleb J. Catoe of Crownsville as a suspect. After a thorough investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant charging Catoe with first degree assault, reckless endangerment and other charges. Officers arrested Catoe on the warrant this morning, and Catoe was transported to the Jennifer Road Detention Center without incident.

Those charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police, a nationally accredited force, is the eighth-largest law enforcement agency in the State with more than 500 sworn and civilian law enforcement professionals. MDTA Police Officers provide law enforcement services at the MDTA’s highways, bridges, and tunnels, at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, and at the Port of Baltimore.

Following unanimous approval from the Board of Public Works, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will begin construction to expand and modernize the MARC train storage facilities at the Martin Maintenance Yard in Baltimore County. Expanding storage capacity at the rail yard is a key component to delivering more frequent service that better serve existing, changing and new travel markets as outlined in the MARC Growth and Transformation Plan.

Hello

The project scope includes increased storage capacity for MARC Trains at the Martin Maintenance Yard (located near Martin State Airport), new tracks with catenary electrification, crossover tracks, a new inspection pit, and equipment that includes water hydrants, air piping extensions and light fixtures to support train car maintenance. The $35 million investment in improvements and increased capacity for the Martin Maintenance Yard is set to begin later this fall, with completion slated for summer 2027. It is supported by a discretionary grant from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Program.
