#i95bmore

WHAT: The left lane on northbound I-95 between Exit 50 (Caton Avenue) and Exit 52 (Russell Street) remains closed 24/7. The remaining three northbound I-95 traffic lanes will shift to the right in this area. REMINDER: To exit at Russell Street, motorists should follow signs to use Exit 50, continue on the ramp to northbound I-95, and exit at Russell Street.

Southbound I-95 traffic lanes will shift with all three lanes to the left of the work area between Exit 53 (I-395) and the I-395 on-ramp. Motorists MUST use the right lane prior to the lane shift for Exit 53 (I-395) and Exit 52 (MD 295).

WHEN: Weather permitting, the northbound I-95 shift from Exit 50 to Exit 52 will be in effect by Wednesday, Aug. 5, for approximately two weeks.

Weather permitting, the southbound I-95 shift from Exit 53 to the I-395 on-ramp will be in effect by Saturday, Aug. 8, for approximately three weeks.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The traffic shifts are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.

REMINDER: The on-ramp from Hanover Street to southbound I-95 is closed 24/7 until late September. The detour route directs motorists from Hanover Street to East McComas Street, to a u-turn onto West McComas Street, to southbound I-95. Work-zone speed limits on northbound and southbound I-95 are reduced to 50 mph. Work-zone safety speed cameras in use.

Serious About Safety: State Highway Administration's Commitment to Safer Roads

This month’s Serious About Safety message comes from State Highway Administrator (SHA) Will Pines, who highlights SHA’s continued commitment to building a strong safety culture and supporting MDOT’s overall safety mission. As we move through the summer travel season, roads across Maryland are busier than usual, making it especially important to stay alert, plan ahead, and make safe choices behind the wheel.

July is Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month, a reminder that anyone can find themselves stopped along the side of the road unexpectedly, whether due to a disabled vehicle, a crash, emergency responders, or maintenance crews. In these situations, drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert, and move over when it is safe to do so. Learn more about Maryland’s Move Over Law, roadside safety, and real-time traffic updates through SHA’s CHART (Coordinated Highways Action Response Team) and MDTA's Bay Bridge website.
