CHANGING TRAFFIC PATTERNS ON NORTHBOUND & SOUTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE THIS WEEK

#i95bmore

WHAT: Southbound I-95 traffic lanes will split with two lanes to the left and two lanes to the right from Exit 53 (I-395) to Exit 50 (Caton Avenue). During this phase, there is no merge lane on southbound I-95 for the Washington Boulevard on-ramp and for the Caton Avenue exit (Exit 50). Traffic entering southbound I-95 from Washington Boulevard must YIELD.

Northbound I-95 traffic lanes will shift with all four lanes to the left from Exit 50 (Caton Avenue) to Exit 52 (Russell Street).

WHEN: Weather permitting, the southbound I-95 split from Exit 53 to Exit 50 will be in effect by Wednesday, June 3, for approximately three weeks.  Originally scheduled for June 2 has been rescheduled for this date.

Weather permitting, the northbound I-95 shift from Exit 50 to Exit 52 will be in effect by Thursday, June 4, for approximately two to three weeks.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The split traffic patterns and shifts are part of the Maryland Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.

REMINDER: Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) equipment is deployed on northbound I-95 between Exit 50 (Caton Avenue) and the Fort McHenry Tunnel. The work-zone speed limit is 50 mph on northbound and southbound I-95.
