CHANGING TRAFFIC PATTERN ON I-895 NEAR MD 295 (BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON PARKWAY)

One Lane of Opposing Traffic on Southbound I-895 Bridge

WHAT:  Two-way traffic (one lane in each direction) will continue to operate 24/7 on the I-895 bridge over the Patapsco Flats between Exit 6 (I-97 and MD 2) and Exit 4 (MD 295).  Currently, two-way traffic operates 24/7 on the southbound bridge.  Crews will close the southbound bridge, and two-way traffic will operate on the newly completed northbound bridge.  One lane will be open in each direction and separated by barrier.  Motorists should use I-95/Fort McHenry Tunnel as an alternate route during peak travel times.

Note: The traffic pattern remains the same on southbound I-895 before the work zone.  Southbound I-895 traffic approaching the work zone must use the left lane to remain on I-895 and the right lane is exit only lane for Exit 6 (I-97 and MD 2).

WHEN:  Weather permitting, work begins Tuesday, May 29.  The new traffic pattern will be in place the morning of Monday, June 4, and last for approximately one year.

WHY:  Toll Dollars At Work: The closure is part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) three-year, $48.5 million project to replace the deck and superstructure for the bridge carrying I-895 over the Patapsco Flats.  The project is expected to be complete in summer 2019.
