UPCOMING BRIDGE TRAFFIC SWITCH MOVES #895BMORE

REPLACEMENT PROJECT CLOSER TO COMPLETION

Two-Way Traffic on NEW Southbound Bridge; Holabird Ave. Ramp to Temporarily Close

Continue to Avoid I-895 and Use I-695/Key Bridge or I-95/Fort McHenry Tunnel

WHAT:         Two-way traffic – one lane in each direction – will be switched on I-895 north of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel from the northbound bridge span to the newly constructed southbound bridge. Switching two-way traffic to the southbound bridge now will allow crews to complete finishing work on the northbound bridge and joints before reopening all four lanes to traffic. As part of this transition, the Holabird Avenue exit ramp from the northbound bridge will also temporarily close.

WHEN:         Beginning in early to mid-November, crews will implement a phased switchover of 24/7 two-way traffic from the northbound span to the southbound span. This stage, including the temporary closure of the Holabird Avenue exit ramp, is anticipated to continue until early 2021.

Note:  The ongoing two-way traffic pattern in the southbound tube of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel is also anticipated to continue until late November/early December, except during the peak travel times of the Thanksgiving holiday, for continued work in the northbound tube.

WHY:            Toll Dollars At Work: The traffic pattern changes are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) three-year, $189 million I-895 Bridge Project to replace the 60-year-old bridges and Holabird Avenue exit ramp north of the Harbor Tunnel, and rehabilitate the Harbor Tunnel. The project began in April 2018 and is expected to be completed in summer 2021. For more details on the project, visit 895bmore.com.
