Access to Private Residences Maintained
Beginning Thursday, May 20, 2021, in order to complete reconstruction of the existing overpass, Abingdon Road at I-95 will switch to an alternating traffic pattern maintained in a single lane using a temporary traffic signal. This alternating, single-lane traffic pattern is expected to be in effect until spring 2023. Traffic delays are anticipated, and drivers using Abingdon Road should consider alternate routes. Construction is anticipated to be completed in June 2023. Access to all private residences, as well as access to the St. Francis De Sales Church, will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
The reconstruction of the Abingdon Road overpass is part of the expanded I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL) Northbound Extension Program between MD 43 and north of MD 24. In addition to the I-95 northbound roadway improvements, the program will replace several bridges that are more than 50 years old and provide new noise walls. The ETL Northbound Extension will be completed in multiple segments and expected to open to traffic in 2024 through MD 152 and in 2027 through MD 24.
